If you have even spent one minute at Makeshift, there’s a phrase we say a lot you might have heard us yelling randomly:

It’s basically become part of the Makeshift philosophy. We’re done pretending everything has to be an either/or. You can be productive and rest. You can love staying home and want a community. You can make something beautiful and make it a little weird. 

We are DONE abiding by invisible rules of “I have to choose” or “I can only do one thing at a time” or “I have to finish something before I start another thing”. 

For this workshop, we’re taking one of our favorite sayings and turning it into an exclusive Makeshift-designed cross stitch project, then raiding the Bead Soup Bar to embellish the absolute hell out of it.

Because why choose between cross stitch and bead soup?

POR QUÉ NO LOS DOS?!

This project will be a perfect keep around as a reminder to not limit yourself. Always choose joy! Especially if that means doing TWO crafts in ONE workshop!

This is your permission slip to stop asking yourself which option you’re supposed to choose and start asking the much more interesting question:
Why can’t I have both?

We’ll stitch. We’ll dig through boxes of beads. We’ll then add beads wherever our hearts tell us beads belong.

What You’ll Learn
🪡We’ll start with the basics of counted cross stitch, including how to read a pattern, find your starting point, work clean stitches, and keep track of your design.
📿Then we’ll get into the fun part: adding beads to cross stitch! You’ll learn how to incorporate beads into your finished piece and experiment with placement, color, texture, and sparkle to make the design completely your own.
Beginner cross stitchers are absolutely welcome!

What to Bring
We know some of you love to come prepared. This design will fit perfectly in an 8x8 Q-Snap frame or an 8” embroidery hoop. You can bring your own, or grab one at the shop with your 15% off workshop discount!   

Every finished piece will be a little different depending on what you pull from the Bead Soup Bar and where you decide it belongs.

Our workshops are designed to be a welcoming and inclusive creative space for all. Please note that workshops are intended for participants ages 14 and up, with instruction, pacing, and materials geared toward teens and adults rather than young children.

Workshops that are appropriate for younger participants will be clearly labeled as family-friendly or “Grown-Up & Me” activities. Thank you for your understanding!

Cancellation Policy:
For workshops booked on or after August 16, 2026, the following cancellation policy applies: If you’re unable to attend a workshop, you may cancel your reservation up to 48 hours before the scheduled workshop time to receive a 50% refund of your workshop payment. Cancellations made within 48 hours of the workshop start time are not eligible for a refund. Please note that materials or kits from the class cannot be provided to participants who are unable to attend.
