Join Makeshift Crafts, Planks & Paint DIY Workshop and Gift Boutique, and The Quilt Store for the Book Lovers Craft Crawl - a one-day craft crawl where you'll visit three local, women-owned creative businesses, try three completely different crafts, and go home with three finished projects!

🚌 Think of it as a field trip for crafty adults.

Over the course of the day, you'll travel to three local craft destinations (all within about two miles of each other!) where each shop will introduce you to one of the crafts they do best. You'll experiment with 🪡 beading and hand stitching at Makeshift, 🎨 woodworking and painting at Planks & Paint, and 🧵 sewing at The Quilt Store.

No need to already know how to do any of them. That's the whole point! ✨ This is your chance to explore crafts you may never have tried before, learn from the people who love them, and discover some incredible local creative businesses while you're at it.

And because the Venn diagram of people who love books and people who collect craft hobbies is basically a circle, every project along the way has a bookish twist. 📚

By the end of the day, you'll have tried three different creative mediums, visited three local craft stores, met a whole group of fellow crafty book lovers, and made three completely different projects to take home.

At each stop, you'll get hands-on instruction from a different local craft business and try techniques from a different creative medium.

🪡 At Makeshift Crafts: Experiment with bead embroidery and hand stitching while creating a bookish Bead Soup hoop.

🎨 At Planks & Paint DIY Workshop and Gift Boutique: Work with layered wood, painting, and personalization to create your own Books Read Counter.

🧵 At The Quilt Store: Get behind a sewing machine and use fabric selvages and stitching to create a bookshelf design on a reusable canvas tote.

You'll leave with introductory experience in three different kinds of crafting, and maybe even discover your next favorite hobby along the way.

What's the Vibe?

The ultimate crafty friend date meets field trip meets “I have always wanted to try that!”

We're spending an entire day hopping between local creative spaces, making things, talking books, learning new crafts, seeing what other makers are working on, eating snacks, collecting goodies, and probably leaving with approximately three more hobbies than we started with.

It's not about being “good” at any of them.

It's about getting to try the thing.

And doing it alongside other people who also think spending an entire Saturday visiting craft stores and making bookish things sounds like an absolutely excellent use of their time.

Stop #1: Makeshift Crafts

Project: Bookish Bead Soup Embroidery

Start the day with a Makeshift favorite! Stitch a favorite book quote into a keepsake hoop, then dig into the Bead Soup to embellish it with beads and tiny stitched details. You'll learn introductory bead embroidery, hand-sewing, and design techniques while creating a completely one-of-a-kind piece.

Stop #2: Planks & Paint DIY Workshop and Gift Boutique

1:00–2:30 PM

Project: Personalized Books Read Counter 

Create a layered wood bookshelf display designed to keep track of how many books you've read this year! You'll paint and customize your piece, personalize it on-site with your name, and add interchangeable numbers so your counter can keep growing with your TBR accomplishments.

Stop #3: The Quilt Store

Project: Bookshelf Canvas Tote

Finish the crawl by trying your hand at sewing! Using colorful fabric selvages, you'll create a bookshelf design on a reusable canvas tote and add stitching and embellishments to make it completely your own.

And because every good bookish craft day needs somewhere to stash its treasures, you'll head home with your new tote filled with a little crafty swag.

Our workshops are designed to be a welcoming and inclusive creative space for all. Please note that workshops are intended for participants ages 14 and up, with instruction, pacing, and materials geared toward teens and adults rather than young children.

Workshops that are appropriate for younger participants will be clearly labeled as family-friendly or “Grown-Up & Me” activities. Thank you for your understanding!

Cancellation Policy:
For workshops booked on or after August 16, 2026, the following cancellation policy applies: If you’re unable to attend a workshop, you may cancel your reservation up to 48 hours before the scheduled workshop time to receive a 50% refund of your workshop payment. Cancellations made within 48 hours of the workshop start time are not eligible for a refund. Please note that materials or kits from the class cannot be provided to participants who are unable to attend.
