Cross Stitched Runes

For centuries, runes have been used as letters, symbols, and through later traditions and interpretations the symbols have been associated with ideas like protection, strength, journey, joy, and transformation. 

In this workshop, we're taking those ancient symbols and translating them into one of our favorite mediums: cross stitch. 🪡

Every attendee will receive a Makeshift Made Cross-Stitched Runes Pattern Booklet featuring a collection of rune-inspired cross stitch patterns, along with information about the runes, their history, commonly associated meanings, and ideas for thoughtfully incorporating them into your projects.

Then you'll choose the rune that speaks to you and stitch it into a tiny cross stitch keychain that you can attach to something you'd like to carry a little extra intention with you.

Your keys. Your project bag. Your backpack. Your purse. Your emotional-support water bottle.

(My Soolla is getting one because obviously my craft supplies require magical protection at all times.)

But the keychain is only the beginning.

Once you've got your booklet, these tiny patterns can go anywhere. Cross stitch one directly onto clothing or a costume using waste canvas. Turn one into a patch. Make tiny earrings. Add one to a trinket box. Frame one. Stitch one onto a bag. Make a whole collection.

We'll walk through everything you need to know to complete your keychain, including the fundamentals of counted cross stitch, reading your pattern, working with plastic canvas, and finishing your tiny stitched piece.

Workshop Age Guidance:
Our workshops are designed to be a welcoming and inclusive creative space for all. Please note that workshops are intended for participants ages 14 and up, with instruction, pacing, and materials geared toward teens and adults rather than young children.

Workshops that are appropriate for younger participants will be clearly labeled as family-friendly or “Grown-Up & Me” activities. Thank you for your understanding!

Cancellation Policy:
For workshops booked on or after August 16, 2026, the following cancellation policy applies: If you’re unable to attend a workshop, you may cancel your reservation up to 48 hours before the scheduled workshop time to receive a 50% refund of your workshop payment. Cancellations made within 48 hours of the workshop start time are not eligible for a refund. Please note that materials or kits from the class cannot be provided to participants who are unable to attend.
