Custom Felt Advent Banner

We’re bringing back the magic of an advent calendar, but this time you get to design the whole thing yourself.

In this workshop, you’ll begin creating a completely custom holiday countdown calendar using gorgeous Benzie Design wool-blend felt, our collection of Sizzix dies, and whatever tiny holiday world you want to build.

Maybe yours is covered in gingerbread houses and candy canes. Maybe it’s a snowy little village. Maybe you want trees, stars, ornaments, mittens, presents, candles, or a little bit of everything.

You’ll choose your color palette, plan your layout and spacing, and then spend the workshop cutting out all of the tiny felt pieces you’ll need to assemble your calendar at home.
And yes, we are doing this early in November on purpose. 😂

Choose Your Color Palette
Your workshop includes one Benzie Design Felt Roll plus a coordinating fat-quarter-sized piece of felt that will become the background of your calendar.

You’ll choose from:
🤎Gingerbread + Toast (light tan) for the background (but hear me out… what if you added white puffy paint too and hung this in your kitchen where you do your holiday baking?!)
❤️Cottage + Evergreen (dark green) for the background (but hear me out… how cute would this be with glittery puffy paint too?!)
💚Winter Mint + Sage (light green) for the background (seriously hear me out… pastel puffy paint?!)
💙Twelve Days + Midnight (dark navy blue) for the background (we also have glow in the dark puffy paint…)
🩷Cranberry Christmas + Burgundy (deep wine red) for the background (I think you get the idea)
🩵First Frost + Swan (light blue) for the background (maybe we should have included puffy paint in this workshop lol)

We will text you after you sign up to get your preferred color palette so we can ensure we have exactly what you are looking for! 

The Vibe

This is part craft workshop, part holiday design session, and part gleefully digging through our giant collection of Sizzix dies deciding what ridiculous little object needs to become a pocket on your calendar.

🎄🕎🪵While we're calling it an Advent Calendar, your calendar absolutely does not have to be Christmas-themed! Create a traditional 24-day Advent calendar, make a Hanukkah calendar with eight pockets for each night, create a Yule-themed calendar with 12 pockets, or dream up your own countdown or holiday tradition entirely.

Classic Christmas? Retro? Scandinavian? Candy-colored chaos? A snowy winter village? Eight nights of tiny felt Hanukkah magic? 12 days of Yule?

You get to decide what you're celebrating and what your calendar looks like.

What You’ll Learn
🔢We’ll start by helping you determine the size, number of pockets, layout, and spacing of your calendar. You can make the full 24-pocket Advent version, create a smaller eight-pocket Hanukkah calendar, a 12-pocket Yule calendar, or customize the format to fit your own holiday traditions.
✂️Then you’ll learn how to use our Sizzix die-cutting machines and spend the bulk of class choosing shapes and cutting all the pieces you’ll need for your design.

✅Our goal for this workshop is to get the designing, planning, and cutting done so that when you leave, you have a clear roadmap and a pile of adorable little felt pieces ready for assembly.
Realistically, are we going to assemble a bunch of elaborate little felt pockets during class?

Absolutely not. 🤣 This is Makeshift afterall! 

That’s why we scheduled this workshop at the beginning of November AND we’re sending you home with the glue. 🤗

You’ll leave class with your advent calendar planned, your pieces cut, your supplies in hand, and the knowledge you need to assemble everything at home throughout November.

And when December 1 rolls around, instead of pulling out something mass-produced, you'll have a whimsical, perfectly imperfect, completely one-of-a-kind advent calendar that you made yourself and can bring out year after year. 🎄✂️✨

Our workshops are designed to be a welcoming and inclusive creative space for all. Please note that workshops are intended for participants ages 14 and up, with instruction, pacing, and materials geared toward teens and adults rather than young children.

Workshops that are appropriate for younger participants will be clearly labeled as family-friendly or “Grown-Up & Me” activities. Thank you for your understanding!

Cancellation Policy:
For workshops booked on or after August 16, 2026, the following cancellation policy applies: If you’re unable to attend a workshop, you may cancel your reservation up to 48 hours before the scheduled workshop time to receive a 50% refund of your workshop payment. Cancellations made within 48 hours of the workshop start time are not eligible for a refund. Please note that materials or kits from the class cannot be provided to participants who are unable to attend.
