Freestyle Junk Journaling

Sometimes the hardest part of working on your junk journal is simply making the time to actually sit down and do it. ✂️📖✨

Freestyle Junk Journaling is your dedicated creative time to spread out, make a mess, experiment, and finally give all those scraps and treasures you've been saving a home.

What to Bring:
Bring your own journal and ephemera such as photos, ticket stubs, postcards, stickers, magazine clippings, decorative papers, keepsakes, random scraps, or whatever else has been waiting for the perfect page. We'll provide access to our basic studio materials, including glues, adhesives, cutting supplies, and tools, plus some of Makeshift's favorite specialty equipment to help you add a little extra flair.

There’s no assigned project and no pressure to finish anything. Work on an existing journal, start something completely new, experiment with a technique you've been wanting to try, or simply see where the scraps take you.

Your $10 admission includes dedicated workspace, access to our basic studio materials, and use of select specialty tools and equipment. Just bring your journal and the personal materials you want to play with!

What You’ll Learn:
Because this is a freestyle studio session rather than a traditional guided workshop, there isn't a set curriculum. Instead, you'll have the opportunity to:

✂️ Experiment with different ways to layer, collage, cut, and assemble your pages
🛠️ Explore specialty tools and equipment you may not have access to at home
📖 Pick up ideas and techniques from fellow journalers
✨ Discover new ways to incorporate your collected ephemera into your journal
💡 Get inspiration when you're feeling stuck on a page

The Vibe:
Creative playtime with a table full of people who also save tiny pieces of paper because they might need them someday.

Spread out your supplies, admire everyone else's weird little treasures, trade ideas, work quietly when you're in the zone, and leave with a few more pages filled than when you arrived.

Come with a plan or come with absolutely no idea what you're making. That's half the fun.

Workshop Age Guidance:
Our workshops are designed to be a welcoming and inclusive creative space for all. Please note that workshops are intended for participants ages 14 and up, with instruction, pacing, and materials geared toward teens and adults rather than young children.

Workshops that are appropriate for younger participants will be clearly labeled as family-friendly or “Grown-Up & Me” activities. Thank you for your understanding!

Cancellation Policy:
For workshops booked on or after August 16, 2026, the following cancellation policy applies: If you’re unable to attend a workshop, you may cancel your reservation up to 48 hours before the scheduled workshop time to receive a 50% refund of your workshop payment. Cancellations made within 48 hours of the workshop start time are not eligible for a refund. Please note that materials or kits from the class cannot be provided to participants who are unable to attend.
