Every attendee will receive a 3D-printed Ajisai-sashi template designed to make transferring and setting up your pattern WAY easier. We'll use the template to establish the foundation of our design, then walk step-by-step through the stitching and weaving that transforms those simple marks into something kind of magical. ✍️
You'll begin by stitching the foundational grid of the Ajisai design. Then we'll introduce the kuguri-sashi technique, weaving your working thread through and underneath those existing stitches to create the beautiful repeating shapes that give Ajisai-sashi its distinctive dimensional appearance.
Once your small Ajisai-sashi is complete, we'll turn your stitched fabric into an adorable pincushion nestled into a little wooden base, making a beautiful, functional home for the needles you'll inevitably use to make approximately 400 more sashiko projects.

This is an intermediate workshop. You should already be comfortable threading your needle, working a basic sashiko running stitch, and following a simple sashiko pattern. We'll spend our class time building on those foundational skills rather than starting from scratch.
