You know those old family photos tucked away in a box somewhere? The ones with the faded colors, slightly blurry faces, questionable hairstyles, and people you love frozen in a moment in time?
What if you could stitch a little extra magic right into them? 🪡✨
In this beginner-friendly workshop, we're combining two of our favorite things: nostalgia and embroidery!
You'll learn how to embroider directly onto printed photographs, adding colorful stitches, playful patterns, flowers, and tiny decorative details that transform ordinary pictures into completely one-of-a-kind pieces of art.
Imagine adding embroidered flowers around your grandparents' old house, a bright yellow sun above a mountain landscape, or colorful little accents to a childhood snapshot.
The possibilities are endless, and the results are equal parts charming, sentimental, and delightfully unexpected.
And don't worry, we're NOT asking you to poke a bunch of holes in your precious family photos while you're still learning! 😂
We'll provide photographs for you to practice on, so you can experiment, make mistakes, and build the confidence to eventually embellish your own meaningful memories at home.
The Vibe
📸Vintage photographs.
🌈Colorful embroidery floss.
🥹A little nostalgia.
There's something so wonderfully unexpected about combining a photograph with hand embroidery.
A photograph… a single moment frozen in time, now given new life with textured, 3D stitches. Wow. That’s so special.
Maybe you add flowers to someone's garden. Maybe you stitch stars into the sky. Maybe you give someone in a 1960s family portrait a very ✨ necessary ✨ embroidered crown.
It's your photo now! Have fun with it!
This is one of those crafts where a few simple stitches can completely transform an image, and we can't wait to see what everyone dreams up!
What You'll Learn
📸 Learn what kinds of photographs work best for stitching and how to identify areas that would benefit from a little embellishment.
🪡 Learn how to plan your design and safely create holes in your photo before stitching, so you don't accidentally tear the paper.
🌸 Practice photo-friendly embroidery stitches and learn how working on photographs differs from stitching on fabric.
🎨 Explore ways to use embroidery floss to highlight details, add decorative elements, and bring new life to your images.
✨ Learn how to secure your threads and protect your finished embroidered photograph.
Please Note: Some embroidery experience is required to participate in this workshop as we will not be teaching the basics of embroidery.
